The Chula Vista Recreation Department will begin the second phase for additional hours of operation starting Monday, October 17. The extended hours are the result of a strategic planning workshop by Recreation and other city staff who identified critical hours of service. Resources were reallocated to accommodate the new hours. The following are the recreation centers affected with their new hours of operation: Heritage Park Recreation Center, 1381 East Palomar, Mondays and Wednesdays, 2 –7 pm; Tuesdays and Thursdays, 2:15-4 p.m. (Mobile Recreation); and Fridays, 12:45-3:30 p.m. (Mobile Recreation). Loma Verde Recreation Center, 1420 Loma Lane, Mondays and Wednesdays, 2:30–7:30 p.m.; Tuesdays and Thursdays, 2:30-5 p.m.; and Fridays 1-5 p.m. Montevalle Park & Recreation Center, 840 Duncan Ranch Road, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3-8 p.m.; Wednesdays, 3-5:30 p.m.; and Fridays, 1-5:30 p.m. Otay Recreation Center, 3554 Main St, Mondays and Wednesdays, 2:15-4 p.m. (Mobile Recreation); Tuesdays and Thursdays, 2-7:30 p.m.; and Fridays, 1:15-4 p.m. (Mobile Recreation). Salt Creek Park & Recreation Center, 2710 Otay Lakes Road, Mondays and Wednesdays, 3-8 p.m.; Tuesdays and Thursdays, 5:30-8 p.m.; and Saturdays, 7 a.m.-3:45 p.m. Since January 2011, all Chula Vista Recreation Centers have been open two days a week due to budget reductions and the non-passage of Proposition H in the November 2010 General Election.
“This second phase compliments the first phase of additional hours offered at the Parkway Community Center, Parkway Gymnasium and the Veterans Park & Recreation Center that started September 26,” said Director of Recreation Buck Martin. The city operates eight recreation centers, a senior center, and two swimming pools. For more information regarding the Chula Vista Recreation Department, please go to: www.chulavistaca.gov/rec.
