The Patrol Operations Division consists of North and South Command, Patrol, Traffic, School Resource Officers, Street Team and Gang Suppression Unit, Neighborhood Prosecution, Public Information and Community Relations, Research and Crime Analysis.

Captain Wedge began his career with the city of Chula Vista in 1976 as a Police Explorer.  In 1980 he became a Reserve Officer, and was hired as a full-time Peace Officer in 1984, serving as a Patrol Officer and Dog Handler.

Following his promotion to Agent Captain Wedge worked various investigative assignments including Juvenile, Family Protection, and Crimes of Violence.

In 1993 he was promoted to Sergeant. He supervised the Street Team & Gang Suppression Unit and was later selected for the Regional Auto Theft Task Force. 

As a Lieutenant he supervised the Professional Standards Unit while also serving as the city Animal Care Facility Interim Manager.

In 2004 he was promoted to the rank of Captain where he currently oversees Patrol Operations. 

During his career Captain Wedge has also been the advisor for the department’s Police Explorer program, and for 19 years served on the Hostage/Crisis Negotiating Team as a Negotiator, Supervisor, and Team Commander. 

Captain Wedge has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Behavioral Science from National University.  He is a graduate of the West Point Leadership program at L.A.P.D. and is a graduate of the P.O.S.T. Command College, Class 41.

He enjoys spending time with family and friends, and volunteering with organizations that help children.
